A Buyer's Guide to Ball, Gate, Globe & Butterfly Valves

Valves are the control points of any pipeline. Picking the wrong type can cause leaks, pressure loss or difficult operation.

Ball valves

Quarter-turn valves with a rotating ball. Quick to operate and tight shut-off — ideal for on/off service in water, air, oil and gas lines.

Gate valves

Best for full open or full closed duty. They give minimal pressure drop when open and are common in water mains and fire lines.

Globe valves

Designed for throttling and regulating flow. Used in steam, cooling water and fuel oil systems where flow control matters.

Butterfly valves

Compact and lightweight, perfect for larger diameters. Widely used in water treatment, HVAC and process plants.
