SS 304 vs SS 316: Picking the Right Stainless Steel Grade

SS 304 vs SS 316: Picking the Right Stainless Steel Grade

Stainless steel is chosen for its strength and resistance to rust. Grades 304 and 316 are the most common, and the difference matters.

SS 304

The all-round grade. It offers good corrosion resistance for kitchens, food processing, architectural work and general fabrication at a lower cost.

SS 316

Contains molybdenum, giving much better resistance to chlorides and chemicals. Preferred for marine, pharma, chemical and coastal applications.

Our recommendation

For indoor and general use, 304 is usually enough. For chemicals, salt water or high hygiene needs, choose 316. We supply pipes, fittings, sheets, plates, angles, channels, flats and bars.
